Kathy has extensive communications experience working in Australia, Japan, Thailand and Indonesia in politics, industry advocacy, banking, mining and energy.
She contributes to a wide range of clients including Australian Biotechnologies, Zurich Australia, Ingenia Communities and Asbestos Injuries Compensation Fund.
Kathy was previously head of internal communications, Asia-Pacific, at Lehman Brothers, Tokyo (2004-08) where she was member of corporate transition team during Nomura Holding’s acquisition of the global banking giant.
Following the takeover, Kathy was appointed vice president, group corporate communications at Nomura, managing the Tokyo headquarters’ liaison with non-Japanese news organizations in Japan and with international media in the Asia-Pacific, Europe and the US.
Kathy returned to Australia in 2015 with her journalist husband, Peter Alford, at the completion of his tour of duty as The Australian newspaper’s Jakarta correspondent. While in Indonesia Kathy managed business development for PwC Indonesia’s energy, utilities and mining business.
Kathy is well known to Wells Haslem Mayhew team, having twice previously worked with John Wells at Wells Haslem Mayhew’s predecessor, Jackson Wells – from 1995 to 1997 and again from 2001 to 2003.
During that time Kathy worked for a range of clients including Device Technologies, MLC, Bibby Financial Services, Lend Lease, Tenix, Chubb and Pfizer. Kathy has previously worked for the Business Council of Australia (based in Melbourne) and as the Executive Director of the Australian-Thai Chamber of Commerce (based in Bangkok). She has also served as an adviser to Victorian and NSW Governments.
